Mindful Monday

One of the most beautiful things about fall is that the trees do not all change at once.
They do not all turn the same color.
They do not even respond to the season in exactly the same way.
As daylight shortens and temperatures cool, chlorophyll begins to break down. The green fades, revealing pigments that were there all along, while other pigments develop in response to sugars, light, weather, and the biology of the tree itself.
That is why one tree turns gold.
Another turns orange.
Another becomes deep red.
Another seems to hold onto green just a little longer.
The season is the same.
The response is not.
There is something worth noticing in that.
We often expect change to look uniform. We assume that if people are experiencing the same season, transition, challenge, or opportunity, they should move through it in similar ways.
Nature suggests otherwise.
Different does not mean behind.
Slower does not mean resistant.
Brighter does not mean better.
Holding on a little longer does not mean refusing to change.
Each tree is responding to its own conditions, its own structure, and what it needs in that moment.
Maybe people are not so different.
This week, notice the trees.
Notice how beautiful the landscape becomes precisely because they do not all change the same way.
Then offer yourself, and the people around you, the same grace.
The season may be shared. The way we move through it does not have to be.
