Mindful Monday

You Do Not Need to Make Every Moment Productive
Fall has a way of filling the calendar quickly.
School starts. Activities return. Meetings multiply. Weekends become scheduled. Even the quieter parts of the day can begin to feel like opportunities to catch up, get ahead, organize, answer, plan, or prepare.
It becomes easy to measure a day by how much we accomplished.
That can be a dangerous habit.
Not every quiet moment needs to become productive.
You do not need to answer one more email while waiting in the car.
You do not need to fold laundry while listening to a podcast about becoming more efficient.
You do not need to turn the walk into exercise, the drive into professional learning, or the evening into preparation for tomorrow.
A few minutes can simply belong to the moment you are in.
Sit on the porch.
Notice the cooler air.
Watch the light change.
Drink the coffee while it is still hot.
Take the long way home.
Listen to the leaves move.
Let a conversation wander without checking the time.
Rest does not always have to be earned by exhaustion.
Presence does not need to produce anything.
Moments that do not become something else have value.
As the season gets busier, perhaps the goal is not to squeeze more into every opening.
Perhaps it is to protect a few openings from being filled at all.
A full life isn't the same as a fully scheduled one.
