Mindful Monday

The First Days of Fall
The first days of fall rarely look like fall.
There are still warm afternoons. The trees are mostly green. Summer flowers hang on a little longer. Then, almost without noticing, the light shifts. The mornings feel different. One leaf turns red.
Change often begins that way.
We tend to look for transitions to announce themselves clearly. A new job. A new school year. A birthday. A decision. A finish line. We expect to point to a moment and say, There. That is when everything changed.
Nature offers a quieter version.
Fall does not arrive all at once simply because the calendar says it has begun. It changes gradually, unevenly, almost imperceptibly. One thing lets go while another holds on.
Maybe there is something worth noticing in that.
You don't have to transform overnight just because you have entered a new season. You can carry pieces of where you have been while becoming ready for what comes next. Growth can be gradual. Letting go can take time. A new season can begin before you completely feel like you are in it.
This week, notice the small shifts.
The cooler morning.
The earlier sunset.
The first changing leaf.
The thing that suddenly feels a little less important.
The idea that keeps asking for a little more of your attention.
Not every change needs an announcement.
Sometimes a new season simply begins.
