What Hot Air Balloons Teach Us About Leadership

Each year, our county’s hot air balloon festival fills the sky with color, reminding us of the beauty of perspective. Watching balloons rise can be a metaphor for leadership.

“A hot air balloon is proof that when we let go of weight, we can soar.”

In leadership, the “weight” often manifests as a clinging to outdated practices, harboring grudges, or holding onto control too tightly. When we lighten our load through trust, collaboration, and openness to new ideas, we create space to rise higher. A balloon depends on both fire and release. Leaders grow by fueling vision and letting go of what no longer serves the team.

This week, consider: What weight are you carrying that may be keeping you from lifting off?
