Lessons from Puppies
There is something quietly powerful about watching a puppy experience the world. Everything is new. Every leaf is worth investigating. Every person is a potential friend. Puppies don’t rush through moments, they live in them. They remind us what it looks like to be fully present, unapologetically curious, and open to joy.
In a world that rewards speed and productivity, puppies model a different way of being. They pause. They notice. They rest when they’re tired. They play when they’re energized. They forgive quickly and love without conditions. Imagine what would change if we approached our days with even a fraction of that intentional presence.
A puppy doesn’t worry about yesterday or stress about tomorrow. It is completely anchored in now. What if we practiced meeting our Monday the same way? Without the baggage of last week and without the anxiety of what’s ahead?
Questions to Ask Yourself
Where in my day can I slow down and actually notice what’s happening around me?
When was the last time I allowed myself to feel joy without a reason?
What am I carrying from last week that I can let go of today?
How can I approach a challenge with curiosity instead of judgment?
Actionable Steps
Pause on purpose: Set a timer once today to simply stop and breathe for 60 seconds.
Practice presence: During one conversation, put your phone away and be fully engaged.
Find the joy: Do one small thing just because it makes you smile.
Forgive quickly: Release one frustration instead of holding onto it.
Move your body: Take a short walk and notice your surroundings like a puppy would.
Puppies don’t have it all figured out. Neither do we. They show us that joy doesn’t come from perfection. It comes from presence. This week, lead with curiosity, rest when you need to, and wag your metaphorical tail at the moments that matter.
