“The work of education is to build both minds and communities.”

~Linda Darling-Hammond

Education is often measured through academic outcomes, grades, and test scores. Those indicators matter. A deeper purpose exists at the heart of education.

Schools shape the way people learn to live together.

Classrooms are places where students learn how to listen to different perspectives, work collaboratively, solve problems, and contribute to something larger than themselves. Learning environments help develop empathy, responsibility, and a sense of belonging. These qualities strengthen not only individual students, but the communities they will one day lead and serve.

Linda Darling-Hammond reminds us that education is about more than knowledge acquisition. Education builds the habits of mind and heart that allow societies to thrive.

Strong schools help create strong communities.

Thoughtful reflection today invites us to consider how the work happening in classrooms each day contributes to the kind of communities we hope to build.
