Mindful Monday

Some weeks, life feels especially full.

Not necessarily because we have more to do, though we may, but because we know something meaningful is unfolding.

A milestone.

A beginning.

A moment we have imagined for a long time that has suddenly become this week.

In weeks like these, it's easy to become consumed by the details. The lists. The timing. The things that still need to happen before everyone arrives and everything begins.

Mindfulness asks something different of us.

Notice it.

Notice the conversations happening in the kitchen.

Notice the people gathering.

Notice the laughter in between the plans.

Notice the familiar faces standing beside you in a moment that will never happen exactly this way again.

Another task will always be waiting.

This particular version of the people you love, gathered at this particular moment in their lives, is fleeting.

So this week, I am reminding myself not to experience the meaningful moments only through photographs afterward.

I want to be there while they are happening.

To look around.

To listen.

To take it in.

Perhaps that is one of the quiet gifts of mindfulness:

We do not have to make a moment last forever. We simply have to be present enough to know we were there.
