The Mirror of Public Service
Public service is not only what we do—it is who we are when no one is watching. It asks us to look inward before we act outward. To serve the public is to examine our motives, our biases, and the quiet spaces where empathy meets responsibility.
Take a moment today to ask yourself:
Am I serving from obligation or conviction?
When I make decisions, whose comfort am I protecting and whose needs am I overlooking?
How do I define the public in my own mind, and who have I left out of that definition?
Small Acts of Awareness
Before your next interaction, pause and imagine the person in front of you as part of the community you vowed to serve. Listen longer. Assume less. Let curiosity replace certainty for just one conversation.
Public service begins with personal reflection. The more honestly we see ourselves, the more authentically we can see others. This week, let your service start not with a policy or a plan—but with presence.
