Mindful Monday: Permission to Go to the Concert
Skipping the concert to “get ahead” at work can feel noble until we notice we’re always skipping. Joy isn’t a luxury; it’s fuel. When we choose experiences that light us up, we come back clearer, kinder, and more creative. The emails will still be there. Your energy won’t be unless you protect it.
This week’s mantra: Rest and joy are part of the work.
Try this:
Pre-commit joy: Schedule one renewing activity on your calendar (a concert, a walk, or coffee with a friend) and treat it like a meeting you cannot cancel.
Name the boundary: “I’m offline after 6:30 tonight. I’ll respond tomorrow by 10.”
Design a gentle re-entry: Set a 15-minute “landing block” the next morning to review priorities before opening email.
Micro-reflection:
What do I gain by going? What do I lose if I don’t?
What belief is whispering “you haven’t earned this yet,” and is it actually true?
How will I notice tomorrow that tonight’s joy helped me lead better?
Pocket scripts:
“I’m choosing presence tonight so I can bring my best tomorrow.”
“That deadline matters, and so does the human meeting the deadline.”
Bottom line: Go to the concert. Let the music reset your nervous system. Your future self (and your team) will thank you.
