When College Kids Come Home
“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.” ~Charles Dickens
There’s a special kind of glow when college kids walk back through the door for winter break. The house shifts; more shoes in the entryway, more laughter in the kitchen, more stories to catch up on. Even if they're exhausted, even if they sleep until noon, there's a quiet joy in having them under the same roof.
This season is about presence, not perfection. The late-night conversations, the shared meals, the simple comfort of knowing they're home (even temporarily) remind us what winter offers: not just warmth, but connection.
Questions for Reflection
How can I be fully present for the moments that matter, even if the schedule is messy?
What conversations or small rituals help us reconnect?
How can I balance giving space with offering support?
A Gentle Possibility
Let this winter break be less about “doing” and more about “being”, together, however imperfectly.
