The Last Week of Summer
The county fair has wrapped up, ribbons awarded, and memories tucked away. As the Ferris wheel lights fade and barns grow quiet, we step into a unique week in the Northeast: the pause between summer’s joy and the first bell of school. It’s a fleeting moment, a bridge between seasons, offering us space to breathe.
This last week of summer is not about rushing to get everything done. It’s about noticing what’s left: the warmth of late August sun on your skin, dinners outside just a little longer, the hum of crickets at night. It’s about being present for small rituals (family walks, one more ice cream cone, a quiet morning on the porch) that remind us life is about savoring the in-between.
As leaders, parents, and educators, this pause teaches us something essential: transitions don’t have to be abrupt. We can step into new seasons with gratitude for what came before and openness to what’s ahead.
Let’s hold onto the gift of stillness before the pace quickens. Let’s model for our students, colleagues, and families that cherishing moments is as important as preparing for milestones.
What is one small ritual you will honor this week before the rhythm of fall begins?
